Taconmadre is as authentic as a "real" Mexican restaurant can be. Not only do you have a mirror image of what you'd expect from Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, but the food is as fresh and delicious as any "real" Mexican food I've eaten in Mexico.
The prices are usually cheap. One of my favorite feats is the pricing. When something is listed as $5, they mean it. No taxes. $5=$5. $2.50=$2.50. I wish every business did their pricing like this.
Another feat is the fact that it's open 24 hours. They serve breakfast in the mornings and lunch during lunch, etc. They're usually swamped on weekend nights because clubs El Rodeo and Liquid are right down the street and a lot of people eat there before or after their clubbing, but they do a good job not to keep you waiting too long.
All and all, the food is great and as authentic as Mexican food can be. I'd love to see them open a restaurant instead of having a bus--or what we in Edgebrook call it: "The Roach-coach." (Not trying to infer anything with the name). They do have tables with seats, but only a handful, and that's the only thing keeping this place from getting one more star.

A long time Eastside resident told me this place has the best tacos al pastor in town so I had to check it out. The restaurant at this location was closed when I was there but there's a taco bus in the parking lot dispensing food. They're the best tacos al pastor I've had. With hundreds of places serving them in the city, I can't claim they're the best city-wide but they were very good. Frijoles a la charra were excellent, also. Most people were eating in their cars but I sat at a table on the restaurant patio. The wind blew over my cup of frijoles when it was still half full and almost blew my plate of tacos away -- maybe that's why everybody else was eating in their cars. I've also seen one of the taco busses on Canal. I'll be back.
